As a professional, I have always preferred a backpack over a briefcase or shoulder bag because a backpack is easier to carry a greater weight. My problem was that I have always been very embarrassed carrying around a canvas bag with business clothes. This leather backpack looks nice enough that I can get away with it. It is very well made, very sturdy, and stands up by itself. It has a great, roomy laptop computer compartment and enough other compartments to separate items without being overly complicated. Very easy to access whatever you want. My only complaint (very minor) is that I wish the interior was some other color besides tourquise (dark green would have been better). Other than that, a perfect, great looking, well made backpack and highly recommended.

I bought this bag several months ago because I was flying a lot for work. Even some of the airport security folks have commented on how nice it is. I use it now exclusively instead of a briefcase or other laptop case for work. It shows absolutely no wear and will probably get even better looking with age. If something ever happens to this one I'll buy a new one immediately.
3.) Excellent bag but a warning

An excellent bag with one caveat. The bag is labeled as 15.4 inch, but it does not specify explicitly what size computer it will hold. The documentation included with the bag gives the dimensions of the computer compartment as 12 x 14 x 2. I recently acquired a 15 inch laptop. Its dimensions are 15 x 10. It barely fits. A 15 x 11 laptop wouldn't. If your computer will fit into it, I agree with the other reviews for the bag. It has good quality and is designed to conveniently hold a large number of accessories and other things. If the bag fits you'll love it. If it doesn't, you'll have to return it.

This is a great bag which has a lovely feel about it, the leather is soft but strong. The bag has the right amount of space for several books and folders, all your little bits, plus the laptop. My 15" MacBook Pro fits perfectly. It is a smart bag, though will get rugged - and better looking - with age. There is hardly anything else on the market like it. The objections to the Kingfisher blue interior are misplaced: the blue isn't that bright and garish, and anyway, why not!?

Looks good, feels good, plenty of compartments but not so many that it hits the law of diminishing returns. I've got a good-sized dell laptop and it fits with room to spare, and there is still room for tons more stuff. It's a bit heavy, since it's leather, but for the money it's a great deal in my estimation. The canvas ones were more expensive, which I don't get- have cows flooded the market or something? Leather is priced like pleather these days, pleather must be practically free. In any case- great bag.

I bought this backpack to replace 3 bags I was carrying, my book bag, laptop bag and my purse and I love it! I have to walk about 1/2 mi one way from my vehicle to my class at my campus and my shoulder was killing me from carrying all those items. I just got this, I put my laptop in it, two large textbooks and supplies, and it is very comfortable to carry. I wish I had discovered this bag a few semesters ago; it would have saved me many bottles of Tylenol.
In addition, I looked a long time to find a bag that would fit between the 'camo' backpacks and looking like I was about to trek up Mt. Everest. This backpack is very stylish and contemporary looking and is not at all juvenile or extreme sports enthusiast looking. Just perfect!
NOTE: It is now 18 mo later and after nearly daily use of this bag and even getting caught in the rain a few times, it still looks as good as it did the day I bought it. The only thing that has happened is that a small zippered pouch that is inside and made of some type of synthetic material ripped some. I think I will probably finish my degree with the same backpack!

I saw other customer's reviews, and took a chance with this pack. I really depend on it for many reasons. It holds my 15.4 Toshiba with a heavy duty battery which added an inch. However, it has many additional padding and pockets for other electronic things.
I am a musician and I carry a stand light, sometimes a tape digital tape recorder, even a small camcorder, and of course tons of music. The filedownsare great for that.
There are even two pockets on the front for my MP3 player, keys, wallet, headphones and a small speaker I sometimes carry.
Remarkably, this pack stays in place when fully loaded, even if I bend over. It is all fine leather except for the backing, with a sturdy handle but even loaded down it is balanced so that it is not to heavy.
I am 5'4" but this pack fits my frame very well and the straps are SO comfy.I would buy it again in a minuteVintage Collection Backpack Holds 15.4-Inch Laptop
17.) Great bag with just the right amount of organization

I undertook quite a search when I needed to replace my aging laptop backpack. I'm a fan of brown leather, and this Solo bag was one of very few options available. I decided to order it and was not disappointed.
First things first: the "Kingfisher Blue" interior is NOT as bright as the photos seen on Amazon. It is a much more natural, muted shade of blue. Look at the photos on the manufacturer's site for a better representation.
The leather used to make the majority of the bag is excellent. It is a rugged, masculine leather that will show wear and gain "character" over time. The panel that faces the wearer's back is breathable nylon of the same color.
The interior is spacious and offers just the right amount of organization for my needs. My MacBook rides in the laptop compartment, and one of the front compartments features pockets that hold my power adapter and wireless mouse comfortably. There's also a zipper pouch that holds a variety of cables and adapters, and an exterior pocket that holds a couple of quick-access items.
In the center pocket, I usually carry a binder, two notebooks, and two textbooks. This bag is big, as another reviewer mentioned, and it is capable of sitting upright on its own due to the large flat bottom panel.
This is a very unique bag with a lot of character. Other than a few minor details I might have designed differently, I think this bag is fantastic.

The bag is the best I have seen on the net. I have been searching for months and seen this exact bag at another site for twice the price. Get it here, best value ever. It holds all I need and more. I travel around the New Orleans region and need to keep notebooks, tools and personal stuff. This bag fits it all and is comfortable. I usually wear on one shoulder, easier in elevators. I just need to find out how to keep it looking clean, neat and nice as it is now. I received yesterday and immediatly filled it up. The color is very low key, dark and professional. I also like it when I have to leave in car it does not stand out behind the seat. Any Ideas on keeping the leather nice as the day you purchased it. Just too pretty to not keep up.

I needed a replacement leather backpack for one I've had since 1980. This backpack should get me through the next 30 years with no problem. The leather is both strong and supple, the zippers and hardware work smoothly and appear sturdy. The top handle is well-anchored and strong. The dark brown color is beautiful, especially in contrast to the turquoise blue lining. There are compartments for everything I need, including: my laptop in a padded section, files and documents; outside pockets for smaller items including phone, keys, small wallet or credit card holder, business cards, etc. The straps are comfortable, padded, and securely attached.

This is a fabulous backpack. It looks and feels very sturdy. In addition, it's very roomy. I can fit all of my work plus a sizeable lunch inside! Believe the reviews. This is a great backpack! Ditto to everything said and I wanted to add that the blue interior is much more muted than the pictures show. It must've picked up the light quite a bit when they took the pictures because it is blue, but not that blue. So don't worry. The brown and blue together really looks sharp and it really does make it easier to see inside the bag than a dark interior would have. Yes, guys, it really is a nice bag for you too. Don't hesitate. For years I have been embarrased by the amount of pet hair (5 cats and 4 dogs) that I transported to work on my nylon backpack. I started looking and found that the Solo had very good reviews. My only concern was the nylon back. I decided to buy it and see how it would work out. The pet hair is not a problem like the nylon pet hair magnet. Even the nylon back attacts very little hair and that just wipes right off.
I found an extensive photo review at: [...]
The reviewer ends with " It rates a solid 4 out of 5 stars in my book! Now, if I could just find someone in the market for a slightly used woman's backpack . . ."
I'm not sure why he thinks this is a woman's backpack. It looks pretty macho to me and the learther guys I hang with are envious.
I can fit my lunch, my netbook, and a digital photo frame in it nicely along with misc office supplies. I rate it a 5 out of 5.

24.) smart, solid, and spacious

bag is solid and well made. The interior blue is not scary as other reviewers suggest. There are three rows of zippered layers behind the pockets shown in the photo. The front-most is widest and has places for pens, pencils, cards, etc. The next, the middle one is for file folders, and includes an dividing sleeve; then the pocket-layer closest to your back is for just the laptop. The zippers are different types and lengths, depending on the layer they close. Smart design.
Discovering that it had three layers of spacious storage was a great surprise when it arrived. The only things lacking are a keyring/holder/clip, and a place for a water bottle. Otherwise, it's a great back. Very lightweight, comfortable straps (not cross chest clip, but it's not that heavy to warrant one), and well made from very nice materials. I'm very picky and aside from the few missing extras, it's a winner.

I rarely write reviews and I'm quite difficult to please. The Solo Vintage Collection Backpack, however, is a superior product and worthy of my time to critique. The first day I carried the pack to work, one of my employees said "Good Morning, nice backpack." Leather usually adds an unmistakable look of quality and craftsmanship to most products. There are also very few leather backpacks available for purchase. The number of compartments and the thickness of the straps make this backpack one of the best that I have seen or owned. Some reviewers don't like the interior color - to each his own. I think the color is fine and of little consequence when you consider the quality of the product.

I searched this bag all over the internet. Prices were unbelievable. A lot of places had it at double the price I paid here at Amazon. I ordered it on a Sunday night and got it Tuesday morning (and that was with the free shipping). The leather is rustic and beautiful. I like that it has nail studs at the stress points. Really stylish yet rugged looking. More room than I thought I would get. Lots of compartments. Everybody's complaining about the blue interior but it's not as super bright as the images shown. Besides that, who cares as long as it wasn't bright pink! I'm very happy with it. I hope it lasts a long time as I used to use a canvas backpack that lasted 5 or 6 years until the zippers gave out. I wish they had another version of the same bag without the laptop compartment as I don't carry a computer and don't need the extra space. Overall, I am happy with the Solo Vintage Collection Backpack and have gotten good compliments on it.

After hauling a semi durable nylon bag for 3 years daily to work and through about 30 international trips I really was looking for a slightly larger capacity, definitely a more business formal look and something sturdy. This bag has pleased me on all accounts. The leather is very nice look and feel - and is sturdy. I do like the blue interior - the lighter lining color (it is not gaudy) helps to see items at the bottom of the bag vs a dark color where items tend to be obscured. Enough pockets - but not too many so with this bag you are not always playing hide and seek.

I was pretty excited about upgrading to a name brand bag but have been disappointed. The bag is of excellent quality and has lots of pockets. But it is bigger and bulkier than I had expected, yet doesn't have the capacity that I had in my previous bag. I was planning to carry my laptop, paperwork, and lunch back and forth to work as I did in my smaller bag but because of the dimensions, I have to carry my lunch separately. It is also stiff which makes it hard to get on and off my shoulders. I am hoping with age that it will stretch to accommodate my lunch bag and be more flexible.

This backpack is well made with many "pouched" and zippered interior storage. I looked forward to growing old with this back pack but alas, it was wayyy too large for my 5-foot frame (I commute daily). It is sturdy, the seams and zippers reinforced with attractive, blended stitching. The packpack will hold up to the elements and leather will age well. I'm disappointed it didn't work for me.
If you have a small body frame, are less than 140 lbs, take my advice (if you decide to get it), don't overstuff (it's easy to do when you include laptop with accessories), you may hurt your lower back. Thank you.

I do like the overall look and feel of this product; quite snazzy in fact. Small, but not too small; large but not too large.
However, there is one lingering question that needs an answer, as well as a genuine usability issue that must be reported.
The question first. Is the material really leather?? It certainly looks like it, but somehow I have lingering doubts that perhaps the company can clear up. There is no use of the word 'leather' in describing the article, although some reviewers have assumed so, and it is on that basis that I purchased it. I ask because there is no 'smell' of real leather at all, and a bit of an artificial 'feel' to it. All seams are also cleverly sealed with a soft something that looks like a pvc moulding, so it's impossible to look 'under' the material unless of course one cuts up the bag.
The usability issue is that the underside of the back straps are not made of the same material as the outside. In fact, it is a kind of a synthetic 'nylon' or polyester type material that tends to slip when on the shoulder, especially if one carries the bag on a single shoulder as most are apt to do today. I would suggest that the company consider refining this by replacing the current material with something more 'non-slip'.
